What is the best tropical plant to plant in very damp soil?

My friend mentioned that there is a tropical plant when planted in very damp soil it will absorb the water , I have a area in my backyard that has very poor drainage, and I would love to plant a tropical plant there that will help absorb the moisture. Can you recommend such a tropical plant?
